Why would it make it shorter. Heres an example:
Good Side ---> (example mission)<---Bad Side
I
I
______________ I______________
I I
(example mission good side) (example mission-bad side)
Thats the best diagram i could do atm lol
Think of the mission 'ladder' working like that. Players would'nt be 'pitted'
against each other, since this is Player Versus Environment.
This will MAKE it fit into the game. This idea would also provide maximum
replay value ~ would'nt that be nice?
Different Outposts for different people on each side, while every now and then an outpost where both sides mic with each other. You get the idea.
@ Maligant Heretic ~
each Guild Wars Chapter is 'stand-alone', you dont NEED other chapters to play them, therefore what your saying it totally irrelivant to the concept of Guild Wars pve.
@ Quid Pro Quo ~
Its not about building the concept aroudn the storyline, its about building the storyline around the concept.
@ Valtonray ~
Thw hole good and evil side will not be like the luxon kurzick side of things.
This time the evil side is THE EVIL SIDE, there would be no other way about it, thats why comparing this idea to the Luxon and Kurzick idea is totally unfair.
Edit: Making the little diagram is hard and guru is being uncooperative lol :S

Because something's got to give. If you boil it down what you are asking for is two parallell games - for the price of one - 'cause you're not suggesting that chapter 4 will be twice the price of previous chapters, are you. Something's got to give - and that will be the content and the lenght of each of these parallell games.
A single story line guildwars campaign is usually around 20 mission and say 100 quests.
It'll be shorter because with your model instead you'd get 10 "good" missions and 10 "evil" missions and 50 quests for each side.
From a developer point of view - the work going into making the hypothetical mission or quest 'Snookums Bottom.' Is pretty much doubled if you need to make it two versions - one version where the PCs are playing on the good side and you plug in the content for this and one with the content for playing the bad side. Because even if they are similar, and even use the same map, it is two completely seperate beasts.
Meaning that to get the same content you normally get of a new guildwars chapter - with the good and evil model. You have to start a new character, play the 'good' game to the end, then create an other new character and start all over and play the bad side. = Less replayability.

hehe my bad, i forgot to add the idea of good/bad deed titles or what i would like to call 'karma'. THAT would fix the replayability issues, letting a single character play both good and bad sides of the story

No matter how much I loved being a Sith in KotOR and slaughtering almost everyone I could the closest thing to villians in GW we'll get is probably doing something evil that is for the greater good by the end of the game.

Would be a nice idea although I couldn't use it. I don't know how many chracters I deleted in KotOR that were meant to become evil but I just couldn't live with it. I like to be the good guy.

No not really.
Whoopie-doodle-do! I've finished the game. Beat the final and hardest mission, now let's go back in time, switch sides and trounce through all those low level missions I've already done once but this time with a level 20 character so they're not a challenge at all, and fight for the good/bad guys to win.
Not exactly adding to the replayablilty issue, much less fixing it.

Dividing the gamers like with the kurzicks and luxons didn't really work. Kurzicks just steamrolled luxons 85% of the time. It would be the same thing with the good v evil thing. One side would just dominate the other. It happens in every game where players are split. So sorry, but I'm voting for a more unified front from now on.

However, a different starting point would be nice.

First, this has been suggested before.
Second, there are too many flies of immaturity being drawn to the stench of this thread.
Let's just forget this ever happened, and maybe go post in a previously existing thread on the matter, mkay?
